Examination technique and imaging protocols of multidetector row CT of the kidney
Imaging protocols and parameters vary depending on the type of MDCT scanner (number of detectors and name of manufacturer). Every imaging department should optimize its imaging protocols and parameters. The CT examination phases of the kidney are precontrast (noncontrast), arterial, angionephrographic (corticomedullary or venous), nephrographic, and delayed (excretory or urographic).
Arterial-phase image shows dense cortical enhancement
Nephrographic-phase image shows homogeneous parenchymal enhancement
Delayed-phase (10 minutes) axial CT demonstrates calyceal opacification.
